Earlier this month, DMS Destination Marketing Services together with Pacific World Asia and Emirates Airlines, hosted a familiarisation trip to Kuala Lumpur and Singapore for seven travel industry participants from Melbourne and Sydney.
Beginning in style with a business class flight on the Emirates A340 – Emirates’ new service between Melbourne and Kuala Lumpur, participants were taken on an action packed adventure by Pacific World Asia who showcased the destination’s key attractions for business and incentive trips.
Highlights of the two day stay in Kuala Lumpur included a glimpse into Hindu culture at the sacred site of the limestone Batu Caves and a tour through the Royal Selangor Factory, where participants discovered the world of pewter crafting. The guided tour culminated in a pewter smithing workshop at the School of Hard Knocks.
Dinners were held at the rustic Bijan Restaurant offering Malay cuisine and at the stunning Tamarind Springs where participants enjoyed their meal by candlelight. The group retreated to the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, located in the heart of the city and conveniently next to the modern Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
In Singapore, Pacific World Asia had a jam-packed itinerary for the three days ahead which included the impressive Singapore Flyer – the world’s largest observation wheel, the signature Fish Spa, the elegant China Club, Asian Civilisation Museum, and Divine Society – an opulent wine lounge. A tour through Little India, the Arab Quarter and Chinatown provided a snapshot of Singapore’s wonderful mix of cultures. Sentosa Island, the new Universal Studios at Resorts World Sentosa, Capella Resort and the must-see Raffles Hotel were also on the itinerary.
A trip to Singapore could not neglect Asia’s most spectacular meetings, events and entertainment destination – the newly opened Marina Bay Sands. This incredible integration of three hotel towers linked by the Sands Skypark presents a convention centre, over 2,500 hotel rooms, a shopping mall, restaurants, bars and a casino.
“Both Kuala Lumpur and Singapore have escalated in their business tourism offering, so much so that we felt as though we were experiencing these destinations for the first time,” said Marissa Fernandez, Director of Sales at DMS who co-hosted the familiarisation. “With increased services from Emirates making it easier than ever to reach these cities, and the huge range of venues and activities on offer, we will be sure to see an increased demand from Australian and New Zealand conference and incentive organisers.”
In Singapore, participants spent three nights in Singapore’s award-winning luxury business hotel, the Conrad Centennial Singapore, conveniently located just 20 minutes from Singapore Changi Airport and within close proximity to Singapore's CBD. The group returned to Australia on the Emirates 777 from Singapore to Melbourne.
