Word of the month : “energy”… one of the 1.097 words borrowed by Greek language.

Do you remember when oil blew through the $ 50,00 a barrel mark? The anguish and fear were palpable. The market shuddered. As of this writing, oil is above the $130,00 a barrel. If the panic is muted, the fact remains that cheap oil is gone and unlikely to come back soon. Yet, there is one positive side effect : suddenly a wide range of alternative energy ideas has become economically viable… suddenly, different is now becoming appealing… suddenly the whole travel industry – including horizon– is thinking green!

Well, what we love most about spring here in Greece is the sudden burst of positive energy and enthusiasm and the festive mood that penetrates the air. It’s time for letting go, of gorging on foods, of renewal. In Athens, the only European capital next to the sea, there is an opportunity cost : as the price of the oil climbs, alternative energy gets more appealing.

New Acropolis Museum

It has been a country’s secret dream for more than 30 years. Athens newest architectural acquisition is ready to open in Fall 2008. It cost around 130 million euros ($ 200 million), 70% of this amount was for the expropriation of the 28 buildings around the museum; its 14.000 square meters are mainly big glass exterior walls, marble, huge exhibition rooms, concrete in various places and its anti- seismic protection. The latest technology has been used for the building of the architectural shell that will house more than 3.000 works of ancient Greek art. The building which is a breath away from the Acropolis, was designed and assumed by the famous Swiss American architect, Bernard Tschumi.
Horizon creates a new company: Event Plus

Given the range of challenges we’re asked to tackle for our clients daily, there is no single approach that works best for every situation. One cannot be an expert on everything. Therefore what used to be a simple department in Horizon at the time when an event was just part of “normal” travel management procedure, became an absolute need for better expertise. Event Plus was launched and people involved bring to our clients a big picture insight-driven perspective. A common sense methodology helps our clients in designing, implementing and optimizing their investment whether this is for a car launch, a special activity, themed evening or large production.

Trust our tradition of excellence...
“Out of the Blue” Capsis Elite Resort : a microcosm of endless choices in Crete
The 5–star 465-room deluxe resort hotel complex is situated on a private peninsula next to a traditional fishing village. It was recently awarded the 2008 Star Diamond Award for its commitment to excellence in luxury and service, but also awarded in 2002 the Worldwide Hospitality Award for best innovation in terms of environmental protection. The resort complex – all redone and operating as such since last year  – is actually offering a multitude of targeted product accommodation. An all suite corner, a thalassic therapy neighborhood, a boutique hotel or even villas and maisonettes nestled in nature… these are all sophisticated  choices for your events or meetings since a variety of conference facilities are also part of it. Mrs Dia Capsi, owner also of the famous Capsis Conference Center in Rhodes, has managed to combine authentic and aesthetic both a fair share in her personality.
“To Spiti” : face lift for a grand old lady.

“To Spiti”, a stoned house was built in 1835 within the historic and commercial triangle of Athens, is one of the very few remaining buildings from the time of King Otto. Today it has been renovated into a private residence and an Interior Design Showroom but can be used for private functions such as cocktails for 120 guests, dinners for as from 10 to 80 guests, or even as a “stop over” for wine tasting while exploring on foot the neighboring ancient Greek Agora.
Its owner, Mrs Lia Raka, a very dynamic lady and the personification of the emphasis on detail, has managed to reflect her personality over to her team, hence service and catering are stunning.
